In some areas of this painting the canvas shows through cause I got tired of mixing the brown tones and simply scraped the paint off.
I also used cobalt yellow for the body and a cheaper cadmium yellow for the greenery.

## Maple at dusk

Material & technique: Oil on canvas
Palette knife painting

This was about a year ago. I was walking home in the evening, and the maple leaves looked so bright in the darkness, almost like they were on fire.
This became one of my favorite memories of that year. It was a cold and quiet october and not much else left such an impression on me.

So I painted this in about two hours. A couple of days later the surface was almost dry, but still had a nice sheen thanks to the alkyd medium i'd mixed into the paint. Btw I'd never used a synthetic medium before, but I could not find dammar resin anywhere while I was traveling.

Subjects: People, Water, Trees, Flowers

Size: 60x50

Material & technique: Oil on canvas

I began this painting at the end of July with a charcoal sketch and then left it for a long time cause I didn’t know which fixative to choose.
In the end I just used my hairspray when I couldn’t find a better alternative ._. After that I covered it with imprimatura of yellow ochre and continued painting in oils as usual.
But the summer landscape gradually turned into an autumn one cause I fell a bit behind the season change 🐌

In the spring, I tried to get there once more. I liked that after many years this place had remained untouched. But the guard wouldn’t let me in.
Well, I’ll keep the memory here.

Another superthick palette knife painting. For this one I mixed my oil paints with a homemade painting medium: dammar, stand oil and refined turpentine - the mix I turn to when I have to move or feel too tired/lazy to prepare an egg emulsion.

I doubt I’ll ever see these places again. When I was a child, I loved visiting my uncle in the countryside near lake Ilmen cause I was absolutly free to explore the fields and woods near his house and come back whenever I liked. He didn’t mind.

I finally finished this portrait! And it was my first time painting with a limited color palette.
So, I used only four colors for this piece: cadmium red, yellow ochre, titanium white, and payne’s grey, which is currently my favorite black. I’ll try other black pigments for portraits in the future and see how they compare.
